Who will be joining you?
Two photography communities – UK Black Female Photographers Community (UKBFTOG) and Storytellhers – have come together to bring you an honest and practical conversation about how to build a financially sustainable freelance photography career that works for you.
Featuring an all-female panel of photographers, we’ll be talking openly about the realities of building a creative career – from the exciting moments to the challenges that often aren’t talked about.
Whether photography is currently your side hustle, you’re thinking about going full-time, or you’re already working as a freelance photographer and wondering how to make your business more sustainable, this panel is for you.
We’ll explore the different ways its possible to build a sustainable photography career, including finding clients, transitioning to full-time work, managing the realities of freelancing and diversifying your income so that quiet periods don’t throw your whole business off balance.

Asini is a photographer, filmmaker and the founder of Storytellhers - a community that supports female & non binary photographers and filmmakers in finding their people, upskilling and growing together.
Jemella Ukaegbu – Founder, UK Black Female Photographers Community
Jemella Ukaegbu is an award-winning British photographer, educator, speaker and founder of UK Black Female Photographers (UKBFTOG), a national network of over 600 Black female photographers. Passionate about storytelling, representation and community, she is committed to creating opportunities that help photographers build sustainable creative careers.
Christianah Ebenezer – Photographer | Director
Lize Okoh – Photographer, Artist & Storyteller
Lize Okoh is a London-based photographer and author. She founded Okoh's Boudoir in 2019 and has built it into a high-end boudoir and glamour portraiture studio with features in The Guardian, the BBC, Amateur Photographer and London Live. Entirely self-taught, she has since expanded into elopement photography, publishing her own magazine, and educating photographers through YouTube, digital products and mentorship. She is also the author of The Returnees (Hodder & Stoughton, 2020).
Amanda Akokhia - Beauty, fashion, and portrait photographer
Amanda Akokhia is an award-winning photographer and creative director whose work sits at the intersection of portraiture, fashion, storytelling and light. Her practice extends beyond image-making into production and visual direction, where she leads and delivers large scale shoots and high volume portrait experiences for global brands including Disney, ITV, Warner Bros, Pantene, and Superdrug.
