Book your place today, and experiment and learn with the industry’s best.

Who will be joining you?

This workshop will be led by Carl Hare, FUJIFILM UK Experiential Marketing Specialist, FUJIFILM School Trainer and Hampshire-based freelance photography.

With almost a decade of teaching experience, Carl’s photographic background spans weddings, commercial work, portraits, wildlife, macro, and landscapes, making him one of the best people to support photographers on this landscape photography workshop.

What can you expect from this workshop?

This Dinorwic Quarry and Llanberis photography workshop is tailored to aspiring landscape and travel photographers of a beginner or intermediate level. Expect a supportive, practical learning environment where questions and experimentation are always welcome.

The area we will concentrate on in the Eryri National Park is around Llanberis which is famed for its mountaineering and outdoor activity prowess. It is also an access point and the starting village of the Llanberis Path, leading up the famous Yr Wydffa.

First, we will look to explore the incredible disused slate quarry that was once a powerhouse of slate mining. Mining for slate in Dinorwic Quarry started around 1787, spanning over 700 acres in its heyday and at its peak was the second-largest producer of slate in the world, aside from its neighbour Penrhyn Quarry. Today, it’s a popular attraction for both walkers and rock climbers as it has incredible panoramic views over Yr Wydffa.

Late in the day we will then head over to the Llyn Padarn to photograph the famous lonely tree. This is also enhanced by the fact that Llyn Padarn is the legendary location of Excalibur and the Lady of the Lake. A time of magic when Merlin and King Arthur roamed the scene!

While Carl will happily provide full guidance throughout the day, a basic understanding of the exposure triangle (aperture, shutter speed, and ISO) will help you get the most from this immersive experience.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:

  • Build a strong landscape composition using lines, foreground interest and balance.
  • Use exposure bracketing to confidently handle scenes with high contrast.
  • Work fluidly with highlights, shadows and changing natural light sources.
  • Use long exposure techniques with filters and tripods.
  • Adjust core camera settings to adapt to ever-shifting landscapes.
