What will you learn?
This workshop is an introduction to landscape photography techniques using exposure bracketing, composition, lighting and some camera control settings. We will also have the ability to look at long exposure techniques using filters and tripods.
This one-day photography workshop is aimed at aspiring Landscape and Travel Photographers. The area we will concentrate on in the Eryri National Park is around the Ogwen Valley which is famed for its mountaineering and outdoor activity prowess. It is also an access point for the Carneddau and Glyderau mountain ranges.
First, we will look to explore the beautiful ice-sculpted hanging valley of Cwm Idwal, a bowl-shaped hollow filled with the crystal clear waters of Llyn Idwal, world famous for its rock formations and rare and fragile plant life. The large glacial boulders of Cwm Idwal were first noted by the famed Geologist and Biologist Charles Darwin, on his field visit in 1842.
We will then head over to the shallow ribbon lake, Llyn Ogwen. Which lies between the mountain ranges of Snowdonia, the Carneddau and the Glyderau. It is said that after the Battle of Camlann in the early 6th Century, Bedivere, a Knight of the Round Table cast King Arthur's mighty sword, Excalibur, into the lake where it was caught by the lady of the lake. With beautiful views of several mountain ranges and mountains including one of the most recognisable peaks in Britain, Tryfan, where Sir Edmund Hillary trained for his ascent of Mount Everest.
What kit do you need?
You’re welcome to bring your own set-up, although a selection of the latest FUJIFILM cameras and lenses will be available on the day. Photographers travelling lighter are also welcome to borrow 3LeggedThing tripods and Kase filters.
Please do contact us on fujifilm_schoolUK@fujifilm.com or call us on 0203 486 4610 if there is anything you want to try. We will try our very best to accommodate you.
As the UK weather is so unpredictable, be sure to pack weather-appropriate clothing, wear comfortable shoes, and take a bottle of water and snacks to keep you going. Though we will have a designated break time to rest, catch up and reset, there will be a lot of walking and time spent outside.
Activity and mobility
The physical intensity level for this workshop is moderate. Walking to Cwm Idwal can be challenging with some steep sections of mountain path. The full trail is roughly 3 miles around the lake from the visitors’ centre. Walking down to Ogwen Falls requires some form of scrambling on rocks to get to water level. Walking around the Llyn Ogwen path requires walking on some rocks, with some undulating terrain and paths. Waking past Afon Lloer requires walking on undulating mountain paths.
First aid
Your workshop leaders are fully First Aid Trained for studio activities and will always carry a full First Aid kit. There is a defibrillator situated outside the Ogwen Snack bar.
