Be part of the resolution revolution The high-resolution stage is set and XF56mmF1.2 R WR is ready to perform. Its fast maximum aperture delivers precise control over depth-of-field and beautiful bokeh effects, while its optical construction produces high resolution, aberration-free results packed with detail and colour. Harness the versatility of the latest X-Trans sensors and unleash your creativity.
Precision with every frame Every aspect of XF56mmF1.2 R WR has been precisely engineered to deliver images with clarity and detail. The optical design, which incorporates a focusing group comprised of aspherical and ED elements, minimises chromatic and comatic aberrations. It also reduces the curvature of the image plane at close range, which means the reduction in close focusing distance from 70cm (27.56in) to 50cm (19.69in) will have little to no effect on overall image quality, despite the shorter distance from the lens to the subject.
Let's get shallow There is no comparison to XF56mmF1.2 R WR when it is used wide open. Images have a level of clarity and detail that is only matched by the wonderfully smooth bokeh found in areas with shallow depth of field. Busy backgrounds melt away from their subjects and create an isolating effect that cannot be emulated or replicated by any other lens.
Beautiful made better XF56mmF1.2 R WR is the first X Mount lens to feature 11 diaphragm blades, which results in a clean, almost perfectly circular aperture, even at F4 or F5.6. The result is a clean edge along a highlight, with minimal aberrations and distractions, that is especially pleasing when it is out of focus.
From specialty to multi-purpose With a shorter close focusing distance and an updated optical construction built upon its legendary reputation, XF56mmF1.2 R WR sets new standards for mid-telephoto lenses, making it a great option for still-life and street subjects in addition to its usual place as a lens for portraits and weddings. From magic hour moments and night scenes, to urban landscapes utilising the shallow depth of field, this compact and lightweight lens can now play a central role in anyone's creative journey.
Ready for anything The creativity switch can flip on at any moment, so it is immensely important to have a lens that's ready to make great images when inspiration strikes. XF56mmF1.2 R WR's weather-resistant design makes it ready for the moment whenever it happens. Nine rubber seals keep it protected from dust and moisture, while ensuring that it will continue to operate in temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F). The fluorine-coated front element, meanwhile, repels water, fingerprints and dust.
Supreme build quality
Impressive build quality is a hallmark of the XF lens range, and the XF56mmF1.2 R is beautifully put together. It uses an all-metal construction that will last for years, but it is also well sized, measuring just under 70mm in length and perfectly weighted at 405g so it feels well balanced when attached to any X Series camera.
Many photographers will pick the XF56mmF1.2 R to shoot portraits, so it’s imperative that the lens is distortion free. Thanks to the excellent design, it keeps any distortion to an absolute minimum, so you can be sure of capturing natural-looking portraits with every shot.
Fast F1.2 aperture
Not only is this setting perfect to fine-tune depth-of-field (what is and is not in sharp focus), it also makes the lens extremely versatile in low-light shooting conditions. Whereas other photographers may have to resort to a tripod, XF56mmF1.2 R users will be able to use the maximum aperture to keep shooting handheld.
Every aspect of the XF56mmF1.2 R’s optical construction is focused on delivering quality results. It features one aspherical and two extra low dispersion lens elements, plus an additional four elements use convex surfaces to ensure even light distribution across the frame, even at the maximum aperture of F1.2.
