Carl Hare

As an experienced freelance photographer and workshop leader, nobody is better placed to run this wildlife photography workshop than Carl Hare.

Alongside being adept at everything from studio portraiture and wedding photography to landscapes and wildlife photography, Carl happens to be our dedicated FUJIFILM UK Experiential Marketing Specialist. He combines creative talent, years of experience, and technical know-how to capture engaging images.

In addition, Carl has been delivering photography workshops for close to a decade, always keen to share his knowledge. His passion for the outdoors is a constant source of inspiration and makes him the perfect person to join you on this exciting day course.

What can you expect from this wildlife photography workshop?

Get ready for a day of capturing stunning pictures of iconic British wildlife. Carl will start by going over essential kit and equipment and offering a refresh on exposure, including aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.

He’ll also guide you on composition, and you’ll have the chance to get up close and personal with British Wildlife in a controlled environment that simulates their natural habitat. Keepers will be on-hand to provide information on the different species you meet.

 

Workshop itinerary

Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your session time.

09:30: Registration and refreshments at the Visitors Centre.

10:00 – 12:30: Introduction and first set of animals. (Red Squirrels, Muntjac Deer, Foxes, Hedgehogs, Scottish Wildcats, Deer).

12:30 – 13:30: Lunch break and free time.

13:30 – 16:00: Second set of animals (Harvest Mice, Barn Owl / Tawny Owl (perched), Otters, Mustelids (Polecats, Badgers, Stoats, Weasels, Mink), Water Voles)

16:00 – 16:30: Finish with keeper and free time

 

Note: This is a guideline itinerary only and we cannot guarantee that all species listed will be featured. The animals’ welfare is always our top priority, and some may be unavailable on the day — for instance, if they are nursing young or an enclosure requires essential work.

 

What will you learn throughout the British Wildlife Photography Workshop?

Whether you’re new to wildlife photography or you’re looking to refine your skills, you’ll have the opportunity to put theory into practice as you capture images of some of the most charming animals on the British Isles.

At all times, Carl will be available to provide valuable wildlife photography tips and advice on:

  • Exposure and camera settings for the best images
  • Compositional techniques
  • Introduction to fieldcraft

Wildlife keepers will also be on hand to offer insights into animal behaviours that may help you get close enough to capture beautiful pictures and spot fascinating moments that can make the best shots.

 

What do you need to bring?

Photography equipment

You’re welcome to bring your own camera set up with you. We’ll also provide a selection of the latest FUJIFILM cameras and lenses for you to use. If you’re travelling light, you’re also welcome to borrow our 3LeggedThing tripods and Kase filters.

Clothing, food, and drink

The British weather is unpredictable and, as we will be working outside, please check the forecast on the day and bring suitable clothing. You’ll also need comfortable shoes, and we recommend bringing a bottle of water and some snacks. We will have designated break time to rest, catch up and reset, but there will be a lot of walking and time spent outside.

 

Activity and mobility

Our Wildlife Photography Workshop is suitable for those with Activity and mobility level moderate activity and mobility levels.

We will be outside for most of the day and will require participants to be mobile. Activities will include walking, to and from animal enclosures, bending down, sitting down, being on the ground, and lying down to be eye level with the animals.

 

First aid

All of our wildlife photography workshops are led by guides who are fully First Aid Trained for outdoor activities. They will have a full First Aid kit at all times.

Tickets do not include any expenses, train fares, meals, taxi fares, parking charges, etc unless otherwise stated.

 

Terms and Conditions for FUJIFILM School Events

1. Event Confirmation and Minimum Attendance
1.1 Once you have purchased a ticket, your place on the day will be reserved and you will receive a confirmation email. 

1.2 FUJIFILM School endeavours to conduct events as scheduled. However, all events are subject to a minimum number of delegates, which is set at three (3) participants.
1.3 In the event that the minimum number of delegates is not met, FUJIFILM School reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event. Participants will be informed of any such changes at the earliest possible opportunity.
1.4 You need to be at least 18 years of age to take part in this event and a disclaimer form will need to be completed on the day to take part in the day’s activity. In case of emergency on the day, please email fujifilm_schoolUK@fujifilm.com.

2. Adverse Weather Conditions
2.1 Safety is a top priority for FUJIFILM School. If there are adverse weather conditions or official weather warnings that may affect the safety or feasibility of conducting an event, FUJIFILM School reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event.
2.2 Participants will be notified as soon as possible in the event of cancellation or rescheduling due to weather-related issues.

3. Cancellation and Rescheduling
3.1 If an event is cancelled or rescheduled by FUJIFILM School due to insufficient numbers or adverse weather conditions, participants will be offered the option to transfer their booking to the rescheduled event date, another event, or receive a full refund.
3.2 FUJIFILM School will not be liable for any additional costs incurred by participants due to the cancellation or rescheduling of an event.

4. Participant Cancellations
4.1 Participants wishing to cancel their attendance must provide notice in accordance with FUJIFILM School's cancellation policy to be eligible for a refund or transfer. If circumstances change and you need to cancel your place, please let us know 10 working days before the event and we will be happy to issue you a refund in full. Places cancelled after this time are non-refundable.

5. Communication
5.1 FUJIFILM School will use the contact information provided at the time of booking to communicate any changes or cancellations. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that their contact details are current and accurate.

By booking an event with FUJIFILM School, participants acknowledge and agree to these terms and conditions. FUJIFILM School reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Participants will be notified of any changes that may affect their booking.
