If you’d like to try your hand at creating striking, emotive portraits, book your spot onto The Art of Portraiture Workshop, led by David Shoukry at the FUJIFILM House of Photography in London.

This hands-on studio photography class will give you insight into lighting, colour, posing, and post-production techniques, with an itinerary curated for photographers who want to improve their portraiture photography with a fine-art edge.

Expect expert guidance, live demos, and guided shoots with a professional model. You’ll also leave this fine art photography workshop with new skills, enhanced techniques, and friendly network connections.

Who will be joining you?

This workshop will be led by David Shoukry, a London-based portrait photographer. David’s teaching style is encouraging, methodical, and artist-led, offering attendees a refined art photography approach to portraiture photography.

Born in 1974, David studied Music at Oxford University and built a successful career as a musician and teacher before transitioning into a professional photography career. Since then, David has worked extensively with TV and media personalities, musicians, models, stage actors, and performing-arts professionals, delivering high-quality editorial imagery with signature elegance, poise, and narrative depth.

His portraits have been published by The Sunday Times Magazine, The Times, Los Angeles Times, OK! Magazine, BBC, and Radio Times, with exhibition highlights including London’s Royal Academy of Arts.

What can you expect from this workshop?

This workshop offers photographers a deep dive into fine art photography in a controlled studio setting. Throughout the day, you’ll shoot three distinct setups and learn a step-by-step system that can be used in your own portraiture photography process.

In this studio photography class, you’ll also be able to take away David’s software retouching tools and follow-up materials to continue your learning long after the day ends.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Design cohesive sets, combining colours, textures, and backgrounds for intention in your craft.

  • Master light with purpose with three lighting styles inspired by classic and contemporary fine art photography.

  • Direct with confidence by shaping subject poses, micro-movements, and expressions for a storytelling element.

  • Refine in post by applying a polished retouching workflow that respects skin texture and your unique aesthetic.

Make the most of your time throughout the workshop. We encourage you to ask questions, experiment, and connect with other like-minded creatives. With FUJIFILM’s House of Photography, you can always benefit from a no-judgement, supportive, and friendly space for creatives.
