Overview of the York at Night photowalk
This photo walk is aimed at photography beginners and enthusiasts, though those that want to test out the range of equipment or enjoy a day out with our photography community are more than welcome!
With a lot of freedom to work at your own pace, Carol will help you navigate your way around and help you produce great images.
There is less focus on in-depth tuition and genre theory, however, you do have the opportunity to talk directly to Carol who will be able to answer your specific photography queries.
This Fujifilm photo walk gives enthusiasts the opportunity to create striking images of York at night. After an introduction and some expert photography advice, Carol will guide you through York’s ancient streets so you can put what you’ve learnt into practice.
Who will be joining you?
Carol Hartfree
Carol Hartfree has been obsessed with photography since her early 20s when she got her first SLR film camera. With a degree in photography, and many years of working as a freelance photographer and trainer, Carol has gained a great deal of technical and creative knowledge.
Carol is known for her kind and gentle approach to her subject matter, with her work being described as ‘photography with a light touch’. This way of working extends to her teaching, helping photographers get the most out of their equipment and their creative vision, whatever their skill level or experience.
What will you learn?
After a brief overview of basic camera settings, Carol will delve into exposure techniques, emphasising how aperture, ISO, and shutter speed interplay.
She'll demonstrate long exposure methods to capture motion and teach capturing light trails for dynamic night photography. Additionally, Carol will show how to creatively use reflections in urban landscapes and water, adding depth to images.
Participants will also receive tips on street and black-and-white photography, focusing on candid moments and contrast. You'll learn to locate and immortalise the most photogenic spots in the area, blending technical skills with creative storytelling.
