Join one of our FUJIFILM Product Specialists, Linda Koolen, at this evening photography walk around the Thames in London.
Before we share the details of The Thames at Night photography walk, let’s take a look at the FUJIFILM specialist who will be accompanying you on this London photography event.
After studying photography in the Netherlands, Linda Koolen packed her bags and moved to the Big Smoke. Inspiration for her photography comes from everyday life and the people surrounding her. However, she also loves to travel into nature whenever she gets a chance.
In her free time, she mostly enjoys street and landscape photography, but she has a never-ending curiosity for everything photography-related. Her passion for sharing her knowledge with others has resulted in her joining the FUJIFILM family and she can't wait for you to join along the way!
Date: 23rd February 2024
Meeting Point: Reception Desk, FUJIFILM House of Photography, 8-9 Long Acre, London, WC2E 9LH
This photowalk is aimed at photography beginners and enthusiasts, though those who want to test out the range of equipment or enjoy a day out with our photography community are more than welcome!
With a lot of freedom to work at your own pace, Linda will help you navigate your way around and help you produce great images. There is less focus on in-depth tuition and genre theory, however, you do have the opportunity to talk directly to Linda who will be able to answer your specific photography queries.
London is a magical place during and after sunset, heaving with character, history, architecture and fun — with boundless opportunities for you to create evocative and engaging night-time images. Learn essential tips for composition, exposure and focus tips and techniques in low-light situations. There will also be a selection of cameras and lenses to try out in the evening.
15:00 – Meet at the House of Photography for introductions, a briefing on the route and Health and Safety, and an overview of locations. There will also be a quick overview of exposure settings.
16:00 - Leave House of Photography, start the photo walk, and visit some of London’s iconic locations along the river Thames.
Some of the iconic locations we may cover include; Covent Garden, Blackfriars Bridge, Southwark Bridge, The Tower of London, Tower Bridge, City Hall, The Scoop, The Shard, Clink Street, Shakespeare's Globe, The Tate Modern, Millennium Bridge, OXO Tower, The Southbank, Waterloo Bridge, The London Eye.
After a brief overview of basic camera settings, Linda will delve into exposure techniques, emphasising how aperture, ISO, and shutter speed interplay.
She'll demonstrate long exposure methods to capture motion and teach capturing light trails for dynamic night photography. Additionally, Linda will show how to creatively use reflections in urban landscapes and water, adding depth to images.
Participants will also receive tips on street and black-and-white photography, focusing on candid moments and contrast. You'll learn to locate and immortalise the most photogenic spots in the area, blending technical skills with creative storytelling.
You’re welcome to bring your own set-up, although a selection of the latest FUJIFILM cameras and lenses will be available on the day. Photographers travelling lighter are also welcome to borrow 3LeggedThing tripods and Kase filters.
