BIO

Carl Hare pairs creative experience and technical know-how as a freelance photographer and FUJIFILM UK Product Specialist. His photography spans many genres, and while his professional roots trace back to weddings, Carl is equally adept at studio portraiture, street photography, landscapes and wildlife.

Keen to share his wealth of knowledge, Carl has delivered photography workshops for close to a decade. His passion for the outdoors is a constant source of inspiration, and when he can combine it with his teaching skills, there’s simply nothing better – for him and his students.

ON THE DAY

  • Meet at 10:00 AM for a hot drink with Carl and your fellow photographers. Enjoy a short briefing session, outlining settings and the techniques you’ll learn.
  • You will learn about the different species of birds you will see throughout the day, how they differ and how to change your shooting style accordingly. Time with the trainer on a one-to-one basis and in small groups is guaranteed.
  • Start putting some of the basic techniques into practise with staged portraits of the birds, understand where to position yourself for the best view and how to isolate your subject against busy backgrounds.
  • Break for a 45-minute lunch, including an opportunity to catch up on your fellow photographers’ highlights of the day.
  • Continue photographing the different birds this time in flight. This will really allow you to put your new skills to the test with the help of the X-H2S AF system and subject detection. More new skills will be introduced and developed through practical application. End the day around 5:00 PM.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

You will learn about the techniques of photographing birds of prey which can be used to photograph species in the wild. In order to achieve professional-looking results, the correct camera settings are essential. Carl will also cover his own preferred camera settings and photographic techniques for this genre of photography.

Wildlife photography is just as much about fieldcraft as it is kit. You’ll be instructed on the nuances of approaching subjects, as well as how to position yourself and frame for beautiful photographs.
