OVERVIEW

Based in the quiet and leafy village of Thruxton, lies a race circuit that has been at the heart of motor racing for over 60 years. Thruxton race circuit is one of the longest and fastest racetracks in the UK, with an average lap time of around 75 seconds the track has 12 turns and hosts motorbike and motorcar racing over 12 days of competitive motorsport per year.

This introduction to motorsports photography workshop, is designed to help you understand the basic shooting settings and principles needed when starting your photographic journey into the world of motorsports.

This introduction to motorsports workshop is taking place on an open track day at the circuit. This means, we won’t know what cars are running until we get to the track, that presents itself with a unique set of challenges.

KIT

You’re welcome to bring your own set-up, although a selection of suitable FUJIFILM X Series products will be available on the day for you to try! As the UK weather is so unpredictable, be sure to pack weather-appropriate clothing, wear comfortable shoes, and take a bottle of water and snack to keep you going. Though we will have a designated break time to rest, catchup and reset, there will be a lot of walking and time spent outside. A limited amount of FUJIFILM products will be available to try, plus a small selection of 3 Legged Thing tripods.

If you’d prefer to have your own selected equipment, you can arrange a free, 48-hour Try Before You Buy loan in advance.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Some shooting locations can be a bit of a walk away from the hospitality suite. All photography locations are next to the track, the paths and walkways could be slippery and uneven, especially with adverse weather. UK weather is always changeable, so on track action will be dependent on the weather. If there are cars on the track, we will be photographing. Be prepared for changeable, wet and windy weather.

By the end of this workshop, through explanation, demonstration and practical exercises; you will be able to:

  • Select the correct shooting & focus modes to achieve the best results for motorsport photography
  • Select controls & understand exposure settings to suit Motorsports Photography
  • Understand compositional tools to create exciting Motorsports images
