OVERVIEW & KIT

This workshop is aimed at aspiring macro photographers of a beginner or intermediate level. While comprehensive training and guidance will be provided on the day, it would be useful if all attendees had a basic understanding of the exposure triangle – aperture, shutter speeds and ISO. As with all our workshops, you’re welcome to bring your own FUJIFILM set-up, including any preferred lenses, spare batteries or memory cards. We’d suggest the XF30mm F2.8 R LM WR Macro, 60mmF2.4 R Macro, XF80mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro lenses are ideal, but close-focusing optics and XF extension tubes are also suitable. A selection of FUJIFILM cameras and lenses for macro photography will be available. Tripods and lighting equipment will be provided for the practical session in the afternoon.   If you’d prefer to have your own selected equipment, you can arrange a free, 48-hour Try Before You Buy loan in advance.

ON THE DAY

Arrive from 11:15 AM at the FUJIFILM House of Photography to meet Carl and your fellow photographers. We’ll be starting at 11:30 AM prompt.

The first part of the day is classroom-based learning, with Carl taking you through photography and macro fundamentals

Lunch: 2:00 PM-2:30 PM

The remainder of the afternoon will be spent putting the learning into action with a practical session. Expect lots of hands-on and image-making opportunities. The day ends at 5:30 PM.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The day will provide a comprehensive grounding in macro photography. Carl will cover a wide range of techniques and ideas, starting with a recap of basic exposure settings, before diving into specifics: macro vs close-up, fundamental equipment needs, magnification ratios, lighting and flash. Practical, picture-taking advice, including which camera settings to use, tips for accurate focusing, depth-of-field control, compositional guidance, and how to keep backgrounds clean and uncluttered will also be discussed.

PLEASE NOTE: Tickets do not include any expenses, train fares, lunch, taxi fares, parking charges, etc unless otherwise stated.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Once you have purchased a ticket, your place on the day will be reserved. If circumstances change and you need to cancel your place, please let us know 10 working days before the event and we will be happy to issue you a refund in full.
